Ferenc Mezei
1942----
Ferenc Mezei (Budapest, January 17, 1942 -) Széchenyi Prize-winning Hungarian physicist, particle physicist, university professor, doctor of physical sciences, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is one of the most significant and internationally renowned figures in the history of Hungarian physics in the 20th century. His name is associated with the discovery of the principle known as neutron spin echo (1972), which laid the foundations for experimental neutron and solid state physics research and material structure studies, and the development of the first spectrometer based on this principle (1978). His other major discoveries are the elaboration of the principle of the super-mirror (1976) and the long-pulse neutron source (1995). Since 1972, his life and work have been mostly connected to France, Germany and the United States, but he also maintains an active relationship with Hungarian academia.
